Whilst recovering from a recent climbing expedition in the Himalaya I found these beautiful flowers in full bloom…..right next to the pool !
………. I’m also working on a landscape series from the same trip.

Thinking of ways to start the new book it seemed appropriate to use a brain…. a big plastic one !

Vicki and I had just finished shooting Ford at Universal Studios L.A. She was checking the bags in. I was busy being a nerd and shooting all the planes that flew past.

Stalking people is hard. I sometimes shoot with a strange looking camera called an Alpa www.alpa.ch which makes images of an amazing quality. It’s a slow camera to work with which is great as it slows the process of picture making right down and gives one time to think. You have to measure the light independently, measure the point of focus independently…… it takes some getting used to. Whilst in Kanzanawa, Japan I spent a day in the gardens of Kenroku-en. I soon found myself following people around….. waiting for the right moment…. for a happy accident. I find that pretending to photograph something whilst observing people on the periphery and waiting for that special something can produce a picture where its subjects are totally unaware of being placed within a carefully constructed image. It’ll probably get me into some bother one day though.

Waiting for a train in Kyoto I found this amazing scene. It reminded me of Jacques Tati’s ‘PlayTime’ (www.tativille.com)
